Flaked Rice
Commonly used in American and Japanese Ale or Lagers.
Flaked rice does not add any flavor to your beer. However, it will lower the protein and tannin content of your beer. As a result, it will lower the body of your beer. It will also help to eliminate the haze potential when used as a substitute for 6-row barley malt. Flaked rice will add a characteristic dryness to the mouthfeel. Its use can help to accentuate hop flavor in the finished beer. You can use it to make Pale Lagers.
This is rice that has been steamed and rolled to gelatinize its starches, making them accessible for conversion to sugars. Because the grain is un-malted, it does not possess the enzymes required for this conversion by itself and it must be mashed with malted grains.
We recommend Flaked Rice should not comprise more than 10-20% of your grist, but Flaked Rice can be up to 40% of your grist for certain beer styles.
We suggest using slightly lower conversion temperatures and extending the conversion time by 15 minutes to obtain maximum efficiency.
Because it has been processed into flaked form, a Cereal Mash is unnecessary. It is ready for you to add directly to your mash.
*The packaging vacuum is confirmed before shipment. If the vacuum is lost due to collision during transportation, it will not affect the use.
